The Background
Pink Shimmerinc is an initiative founded by Dinda Nawangwulan and Alexander Abimanyu and strongly supported by Darpa Bangsa in the spirit of creating more awareness about breast cancer and ultimately building support / advocacy center.
Why breast cancer? Dinda is a survivor. She was diagnosed with the disease in her early 30s where everybody starts to live their life to the fullest. The best decision at the time was to undergo mastectomy and reconstruction processes.
She stayed positive and outgoing despite her condition only to found out moments later that she still had few more tumor nodes in her lymphatic system. The mind-blowing news came along with the inevitable solution, to endure another removal surgery and also chemotherapy.
During the treatment, Dinda received full support from her family and friends. However, she realized that most cancer patients are emotionally unstable and feeling down, alone, ugly, all at the same time. Stress can emerge even before they become a patient, the agony of waiting lab reports, to look at existing patients who may already be bald, sitting at a wheel chair, even to smell the air inside the hospital.
The Plan
The vision of Pink Shimmerinc is to establish a support / advocacy center, preferably located inside the hospital, to provide general information for the newly diagnosed and existing patients. This center will act like a ‘pit stop’ to prepare them before undergoing any treatments.
The center will provide:
1. General information about health, specifically about breast cancer for general public or the newly diagnosed
2. Sharing program for survivors and existing patients
3. Education program, collaborates with resident doctor
4. Beauty clinic / makeup class as one of psychological treatment to underline that having an illness is not necessarily translates to looking ill.
The Action
To realize the plan, there are lots of efforts to be done and they need your help. You can show your support for Pink Shimmerinc through several ways such as:
1. Spreading the Words
Dinda and Alex welcome requests of public speaking and sharing on what to expect when your family member is diagnosed with cancer. All proceeds from the public speaking will go for this cause. For further info and bookings, please email info@shimmerinc.com.
